Situated 11 kilometres northwest of Gdańsk, Lech Wałęsa Airport has become a popular destination for budget airlines. Wizz Air flies there from Bournemouth, Cork, Coventry, Doncaster/Sheffield, Glasgow-Prestwick, Liverpool and London-Luton. Ryanair flies from Birmingham, Dublin and London-Stansted. bmibaby flies from Cardiff and East Midlands.
There’s a bus stop to the right of the main terminal entrance. From here Bus “B” departs for the city centre every half hour. The journey takes about 35 minutes, but if you get caught in rush hour traffic this may easily double. The fare is 4.20 złote (€1.20) per person. However you are obliged to purchase this fare in the form of three 1.40 złote tickets, all of which must be stamped in the machine on board the bus. Bus “B” drops off right in front of the main train station.
Public transport in Gdańsk is cheap, easy, and reliable. There is a bus network, as well as roughly 10 tram lines that operate throughout the city. Bus and tram tickets are sold at news stands or shops marked "bilety." The cost of a ticket is based on travel time (one-hour, two-hours etc), so you need to estimate the duration of the journey or have a few extra tickets to validate when the current one expires. Once again, tickets must be stamped in the machine on board the bus or tram. There is a 24 hour-ticket, which costs 9.10 złote (€2.60) and is valid on all trams and buses during the day and on night buses. Use the commuter train (SKM) to quickly reach Sopot and Gdynia.
